Hello, we're Contempo

We're an independent gift shop in the heart of Stirling, and we've been doing this since 2009. What started as a small shop on King Street has grown into a firm favourite for people hunting down gifts that aren't the same old thing. The sort of present that makes someone's face light up, or the treat you quietly buy for yourself and absolutely do not regret.

You'll find us at 19 King Street, and you'll find the same shop online. Same eye, same carefully chosen collection, same friendly faces answering your emails.

How we choose what's on our shelves

Everything we stock has to earn its place, and we're fussy about it. It starts with that little “ooh, what's this?” moment. If a piece stops us in our tracks, chances are it'll stop you too. We go looking for the original and the overlooked rather than the generic and the everywhere, and we've got a soft spot for things that make you smile: the cheeky candle, the notebook full of puns, the gift that's clearly got a sense of humour.

We also care, maybe a little too much, about how things look and feel. Clever design, beautiful packaging, an object that's a genuine pleasure to hold. That's the good stuff, and it's what we go hunting for. Just as importantly, we think great design shouldn't be reserved for people with deep pockets. Our shelves are deliberately full of different personalities, tastes and price points, so there's something lovely here whatever your budget.

And because we're independent ourselves, we love championing others who are too. We seek out small makers and independent brands, the people doing their own thing rather than following the crowd, from our much loved Jellycat range (one of the largest in the area) to authentic Harris Tweed, woven by hand in Scotland.
